Assise sur la coque du vaisseau, elle fredonnait un air mélancolique et regardait l'horizon. Elle attendait qu'il revienne depuis une éternité. Le vaisseau sur lequel elle était assise rutilait et brillait comme au premier jour de sa sortie d'usine. Cependant elle avait compté les jours depuis son départ et avait vu le paysage changer devant elle. Elle avait vu les saisons défiler, les oiseaux chanter dans le ciel, les écureuils danser sur les branches. Elle avait vu les arbres bourgeonner puis être recouvert de givre puis bourgeonner à nouveau. Elle avait vu tout cela, et plus d'une fois. Elle avait vu ce monde changer devant elle, pourtant elle restait la même. Ni elle ni le vaisseau n'avait bougé d'un pouce, tous deux plongés dans l'attente paisible de son retour. Tout changeait mais rien ne changeait. Mais lui, avait-il changé? Reviendrait-il un jour? Elle hésitait à agir. Mais le vaisseau restait silencieux, alors elle attendait. Elle l'attendait.

Sat on the hull of the ship, she hummed a melancholic tune and gazed upon the horizon. She was waiting for him to return. The spaceship where she sat gleamed and shined like if it was fresh out of the factory. However, she had counted the days since his departure and she had seen the landscape change before her. She had seen the seasons pass by, the birds sing in the sky, the squirrels dance in the tree branches. She had seen the trees bud then be covered in frost and bud again. She had seen all of this, and more than once. She had seen the world change around her, while she stayed the same. Neither she nor the spaceship had made a move, both peacefully waiting for his return. Everything changed but nothing changed. But did he change? Would he ever come back? She was hesitating to act. But since the spaceship remained silent, she waited. She waited for him.
